Nonaversive Behavioral Techniques

DRO: Differential Reinforcement of Other Behavior: positive reinforcement when the behavior is not displayed for a specific time interval
  • reset: when the behavior is displayed, time starts over
  • fixed interval
  • increasing interval: reinforcement fades as time gets longer
  • progressive schedule: reinforcement increases as behavior is controlled for increasing consecutive intervals
DRL: Differential Reinforcement of Low Rates of Responding: successful with frequent behaviors, reinforcement occurs if behavior rate is lower than an established amount during a specific time interval
  • DRL-IRT: reinforcement given after an interval since the previous behavior (interreponse time), and time interval gradually increases
  • below criterion schedule: determine average time behavior occurs during a specific time interval (baseline), and reinforce if the behavior occurs under that average
DRA: Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behaviors: reinforce behavior that is an appropriate alternative to the negative behavior
